My name is Mekides Binchamo I was born in a small city in Ethiopia called Hossana and moved to Clarkston, Georgia, at the age of eight. I was nervous about the transition to the United States because I was leaving behind everything I had ever known. However, that fear and anxiousness quickly went away once I got accustomed to my new home and familiarized myself with the language by making friends. One of the things that made this transition easier for me was the welcoming atmosphere in Clarkston and the helpful individuals that lived there. Clarkston swiftly became my new home and the place in which I was raised in for the next nine years. In terms of education, I believe that being from Ethiopia and seeing the health struggles that people in the country faced helped me form my interest in Public Health. Furthermore, being able to exert an influence on the passing of health-related policies that impact many communities evoked my interest in Public Health. Outside of the classroom, my non-academic interests include playing volleyball, watching the NBA, Netflix, and spending time with my family.
